Job Description


The Vitro Carlisle plant is looking for a Coater Electrical Engineer.  Carlisle is one of six float glass manufacturing plants in Vitro’s Architectural Products business.  Carlisle produces float glass for use by other Vitro plants and outside customers in various trade, mirror and automotive applications. Vitro also produces value-added Coated and Tempered from our two MSVD Coaters and our Tempering furnace.  This position requires a college degree in Electrical Engineering with five or more years experience.  The incumbent must have and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and sound technical judgment.  Expertise required ranges from computer programming for process control to control systems and power distribution.  Knowledge of human relations and the ability to work with all levels of plant supervision, P&M personnel, external contractors and vendors is essential.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

                1.   Safety, Health & Environment - Ensure Vitro safety goals and requirements are met by engineering with safety foremost, educating fellow workers and P&M personnel on the procedures                          for safe operation and maintenance of equipment, and enforcing plant rules concerning safety, health and environment.

    1. Quality - Promote Vitro’s emphasis on quality by performing engineering work that meets defined requirements, approaching tasks with a "do it right the first time" attitude, and a service orientation disposition toward the various production departments.
    2. Interpersonal Skills - Maintain a modern management approach with relationships in the workplace by effective communication, follow up and respect for individuals.
    3. Projects/Project Management - Conduct project engineering and project management utilizing recent technology to conceive, design, specify, supervise installation and troubleshoot plant process equipment for improved productivity.
    4. Cost Control - Maintain control of expenditures on projects to remain within project budgets, also abide by Purchasing and departmental requirements to ensure proper and economical use of outside vendors and contractors.
    5. Personal Growth - Continue personal growth and development for effectiveness in Human Relations and technical achievement by involvement in appropriate on-job and off-job activities.

This position's responsibilities fall into the category of developing, programming, and maintaining process equipment and systems.  Systems include, but are not limited to, Allen Bradley SLC and ControlLogix PLCs and servos, Modicon Quantum and Unity PLCs, WonderWare HMIs, Siemen’s servo drives, VFDs, high power power supplies, as well as 480 volt 3-phase distribution.  The incumbent will also be responsible for developing procedures and training for all aspects of coater operation.  This position will support department operations and is in daily contact with the other coater staff to discuss production activities, quality, process, operating procedures, policy, complaints, and personnel problems.

This position reviews and analyzes production data and makes corrective actions and projects as necessary.  The incumbent keeps the Value Added Manager apprised of serious process control issues as well as significant potential improvements. The incumbent must be able to work independently and multitask in a fast paced production environment.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of engineering and maintenance principals, field experience in construction and a strong background in glass manufacturing technology and processes
