Job Description


Vitro is hiring a Coater Process Engineer for our Wichita Falls TX plant. The basic function of this position is to support the MSVD vacuum coater operation on a day to day basis as well as provide process development and continuous improvement.

The primary responsibility of the Coater Process Engineer is to meet the daily operational needs of the Wichita Falls Coater(s) with a focus on eliminating down time, increasing coater efficiency and improving process flow. The Engineer must maintain open communications with Glass Processors and Coater Operators to ensure operational problems are understood and eliminated.  Additionally, these open communications will lead to process improvements. The Coater Engineer must interface well with all levels of the management team.


Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Coater Operators, Glass Processors, and Maintenance
  • Maintain daily contact with the other coater staff to discuss production activities, quality, process, operating procedures, policy, complaints, and personnel problems
  • Review and analyze films and coater process control system and make corrective action as necessary
  • Keep the Coater Manager apprised of serious process control issues as well as significant potential improvements
  • Continually seek ways to improve the process through projects. This is accomplished, in part, by staying abreast of current technology as well as staying in contact with other counterparts at other VITRO coaters and replicating improvement when appropriate.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree with Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or Computer Science preferred
  • 3+ years of applicable industrial experience
  • Thorough understanding of the MSVD process
  • Basic understanding of programming, HMI, PLC and Electrical systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of a wide variety of industrial sensors and their application as well as a thorough knowledge of machine safety and the application of safety devices


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to meet with customers face-to-face. Having strong communication and supervisory skills is a must.
  • Must be able to work independently and multitask in a fast paced production environment.
  • Must be able to respond immediately to production problems while maintaining a long term focus on improvement.
  • Must be able to manage complex projects taking them from concept to reality. This can include initiating and coordinating project work in areas other than computer or electrical areas.
  • Must effectively utilize resources outside of the department. This includes VITRO’s central Engineering and Research, outside contractors, vendors and plant Maintenance.
