Job Description


This position provides technical and engineering support to the Mid-Ohio plant and process operations that will ensure reliability and the optimum safe use of the facilities, equipment, and resources in order to meet customer requirements and plant objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for assigned production lines, projects and support of various areas of the plant's facilities. As such, the incumbent ensures appropriate facilities and equipment is available and ready to use for product fabrication.  These requirements are based on customer specifications and blueprints and are achieved by working with both customer and vendor representatives. The incumbent will use lean manufacturing concepts to design and implement basic assigned production process modifications and engineering projects to increase plant safety, quality, efficiency, reduce variable costs, and will also provide technological guidance and assistance in equipment operation and maintenance. He/she will also develop project plans related to engineering assignments and assist in developing short and medium range plans and provide information for the preparation of both expense and capital requests related plant and project engineering needs.  It is expected that the incumbent would work in a manner of continuous improvement and document improvements to share with other manufacturing sites.

The incumbent must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) for interactions with management, peers, floor associates, vendors and contractors, as well as the hands-on ability to trouble-shoot, analyze and resolve problems, plan, organize and share information.  The incumbent must be able to work independently and manage projects to established timelines.  Performance is measured against plant performance and project goals and specific assignments.

Job Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably mechanical, electrical or equivalent) is required.  Experience in the automotive industry as well as experience with automation systems, robotics and vision systems would be preferred.  Other computer skills required include Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project. 

  1. Use problem solving techniques to identify root causes and then implement the solutions necessary to improve safety, quality and cost (labor, speed, yield and downtime)
  2. Measure and demonstrate capability for the process/product/equipment assigned for improvement.
  3. Gather and analyze the information available to determine improvement opportunities. Use lean six sigma tools like fishbone diagrams, failure mode and effects analysis, histograms, pareto charts, and a variety of statistical tools.
  4. Make improvements through Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), standardized work, design of experiments, 5S, Takt time, and work cell design.
  5. Modify PFMEAs, Control Plans and Process Flow Diagrams to capture improvements, maintain a run chart to make sure the process does not drift, and teach employees how to use their control chart to improve effectiveness.
  6. Other tasks as may be directed.


This position is required to spend a significant portion of the day on the production floor requiring standing, walking, bending and kneeling.  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must wear appropriate personal safety protection equipment. This equipment will vary based upon the work location and type of work being performed but often will include safety glasses, steel toed shoes and sometimes may include protective clothing.
