The Automation Technician is responsible for providing support for the installation and maintenance of electrical control systems and devices including robots and visual control systems. The successful candidate will be involved in the troubleshooting, development, planning and installation of equipment and responsible for documentation and training on electrical control systems and devices. 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and perform basic programming for robots, microprocessors, process controllers and various computers as required in order to have properly programmed robots, microprocessors, process controllers and computers.
  • Troubleshoot repairs, calibrate and modify existing robots and electronic equipment on a routine and emergency basis to ensure the line runs.
  • Develop and conduct training sessions on process control systems and equipment for all levels of plant personnel in order to have trained personnel.
  • Assist Engineering and Maintenance in the installation or revision of electrical control systems in order to have properly installed or revised systems.
  • Proactively initiate operational improvement projects.
  • Assist in the planning and actively participate in scheduled shutdowns and start-ups of plant equipment to ensure the equipment starts up and runs when needed.
  • Order and inventory replacement parts for equipment; write job orders, estimates, reports and other documentation required for effective communication and work processing.
  • Follow proper safety procedures and good housekeeping when performing all assignments.
  • Read interpret, draft and modify blueprints, program documentation and schematics in order to provide these documents to those who need them.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2-year technical certificate in an electrical field
  • Associates or Bachelors preferred
  • 3 years of experience performing similar work in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • must be able to work night shift

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to read blueprints and knowledge of SPC, geometric tolerance and how these concepts help assure that customer specifications are met
  • Computer programming experience
  • In depth knowledge of PLCs and robotics
  • Strong technical trouble-shooting skills (specifically electrical)
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Good communications skills (both verbal and written) to communicate and work effectively with employees at all levels within the plant, as well as vendors and contractors
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of plant security/confidentiality policies when dealing with outside vendors
