Key Roles and Responsibilities: 

The candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • He/she determines the most efficient manufacturing methods that will produce a quality product.  Supervises the installation of new production equipment.  Interacts with vendors and corporate engineering to aid in start-up of new equipment.
  • The incumbent keeps current on all process control developments throughout the flat glass business unit by communicating with corporate research and development, and by interacting with peers at other facilities.   
  • Maintains a constant awareness of plant status in complying with regulatory agencies requirements, and supports departmental, plant and corporate policies and goals with regard to achieving the highest levels of safety, housekeeping and environmental standards.
  • Makes recommendations and at times decisions on selection of equipment for new installations and modifications to existing equipment
  • Critical decision making in times of unplanned events/plant emergencies

Ensure that all assigned projects are designed to comply with Vitro SHE policies, federal, state and local safety standards
and regulations, along with Contractor Safety Manual installation procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated computer application skills, including programmable logic control (PLC’s), HMI’s and VFD’s.
  • Have a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to take a hands-on approach to their work.
  • Ability to analyze data and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce, including union personnel, contractors and corporate staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Organized and can prioritize based on the current facility needs.
  • Manage capital projects and improvements from conception to implementation, including competitive bidding, funding requests, material purchasing, project scheduling, installation, preventative maintenance, and documentation creation.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.
  • Previous glass manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of Delta V, iFix or other Distributed Controls system programs
  • Knowledge of lean principles
