Job Description


This position requires strong technical knowledge, a manufacturing focus, and a working knowledge of MSVD coatings. A primary accountability of the incumbent is to develop and transfer new coated/heated glass products to the production environment.

The incumbent must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) for interactions with management, peers, other associates, vendors and contractors, as well as the ability to trouble-shoot, analyze and resolve problems, plan, organize and share information.  The incumbent must be able to work independently and manage projects to established timelines.  Performance is measured against project goals and specific assignments.

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably mechanical, electrical or equivalent) is required.  A working knowledge of computer aided-design equipment and computerized processes is preferred.  Strong technical knowledge of glass cutting, edging and bending for the automotive industry is preferred.  Other computer skills required include Microsoft EXCEL, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. 

The incumbent will be accountable for all aspects of development for new products under his/her responsibility. Activity will entail conducting work both internally and externally with customers, partners, and suppliers. The incumbent will focus on the development and industrialization of new coated/heated glazing, incorporating third party vendors and internal Vitro capabilities. The incumbent will assume leadership of a coated/heated glazing development team, and work closely with the manufacturing facilities for the industrialization of planned products and processes.

The incumbent will also work with Vitro personnel (technical, purchasing, manufacturing, sales, and marketing) to develop relationships with value chain participants as required for supporting development and production needs. The incumbent will be accountable for all technical aspects of product development and initial validation for commercial programs, as well as participant on Product Development Teams as part of the product launch process. The incumbent will develop knowledge about Vitro manufacturing processes such that new glazing products can be efficiently transferred to manufacturing facilities for commercial production at minimum cost. The incumbent will create a proprietary position for Vitro through the filing of patents and development of trade secrets.

The incumbent will also identify new opportunities for coated/heated glazing technologies to enhance Vitro product offerings and support business initiatives which require his/her expertise.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent)

  1. Lead development programs for coated/heated glazing products
  2. Interface with members of the value chain to develop the relationships and partnerships necessary to manufacture and deliver new coated/heated glazing products to customers on a global basis.
  3. Interface with customers globally to demonstrate capability in support of potential business awards.
  4. Provide technical support to manufacturing facilities for launch of new products and initiatives for process improvement and cost reduction.
  5. Provide technical support and services to customers related to coated/heated glazing products.
  6. Other tasks as may be directed.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds during an eight-hour shift.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must wear appropriate personal safety protection equipment. This equipment will vary based upon the work location and type of work being performed but often will include safety glasses and sometimes may include protective clothing.
