Job Description


The Manager of EHS is responsible for managing the comprehensive Environmental, Health, & Safety Program for Vitro Flat Glass manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution locations. Areas of responsibility include providing overall direction for developing and implementing programs and processes related to Environmental, Health & Safety for Vitro Flat Glass. 

The incumbent will provide leadership and direction to help ensure a safe workplace for employees while ensuring compliance with applicable EH&S laws and regulations. This position will work with internal customers to make long term strategic and tactical decisions.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and leadership for the EHS programs at Vitro Flat Glass
  • Provide assistance in implementation and follow-up for Vitro Flat Glass Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System (EHSMS)
  • Manage Corporate EHS budget
  • Oversee the Worker's Compensation (WC)/Injury Management processes for Vitro Flat Glass. Provide overall management of Third Party Administrator (reserve increases, settlements, etc.) as they relate to WC and Auto incidents.
  • Facilitate the Vitro Flat Glass Environmental, Health & Safety Leadership Team
  • Develop and implement goals, strategies, and KPI's for improving Vitro Flat Glass EHS performance
  • OSHA/DOT/EPA/Homeland Security compliance and reporting
  • Co-lead the Crisis Management Team
  • Co-Lead Product Stewardship Steering Team
  • Technically support the engineering team when it comes to equipment specifications, contractor safety, environmental issues and concerns
  • Manages, develops and mentors site-level EHS staff.  This position has 2 direct reports and 15 indirect staff reporting.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Safety Science, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent required.

Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, CHMM, or PE.

10-20 years of related EH&S, with 5+ years in business unit or corporate level leadership experience required.

Additional competencies/skills required:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable regulations and standard such as OSHA, EPA, ANSI, DOT, Pennsylvania DEP, NFPA, etc. is preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with multiple management levels at the facility, internal customers, and with outside agencies.
  • Ability to drive cultural change and accountability.
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and listening).
  • Coaching for high performance and engagement skills.
  • Strong knowledge of safety, EHS management systems, injury prevention, risk assessments, and behavior based safety programs.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment, creating partnerships at various levels of the organization.
  • Strong business acumen and excellent decision making skills.
  • Must be able to articulate, build consensus for, and effectively implement solutions. 
  • Effective presentation and facilitation skills with experience presenting ideas and concepts to diverse audiences including senior executives.
  • Must be able to think and act strategically, but also be willing to “roll up sleeves” to handle activities within the function.
  • Must be able to clearly and succinctly communicate and sell value-added solutions to operations leadership

The work environment is a combination of office setting in a research and development facility and travel to manufacturing and distribution facilities.

Must be self motivated and willing to travel approximately 50% of the time.
