Job Description


The Elkin, NC location of Vitro is looking for a Human Resources Generalist. The Generalist reports to the Site HR Manager. This role is extremely visible and demands flexibility, professionalism, sound decision making and problem solving abilities. The HR Generalist is the first point of contact for employee’s questions on any variety of topics; including payroll, policies, benefits, performance management, and more. The Elkin location is in a growth mode and creates an environment that needs a sense of urgency and attention to detail to accomplish the challenges at hand. The right candidate will have the knowledge of the fundamental HR laws, practices, and principles that guide how we operate in the HR field. For the right candidate, this position should operate with a high level of autonomy.


  • Staffing, including high volume recruitment of hourly positions, employee orientation, development and training, and performance review process.
  • Employee Relations including coordination of employee functions, meetings, celebrations, recognition service awards, and exit interviews.
  • Management of internal employee moves, testing, pay progressions, and application of consistent practices
  • Health and welfare administration including benefits open enrollment.
  • Assists with planning and administration of HR policies and procedures; maintains compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems to affect continual improvement in efficiency and services.
  • Maintains Human Resource Information System records and files, including EV5 and Etime; provides administrative support to all HR functions.
  • May be responsible for hourly payroll processing, including review and sign off of hourly employee time cards, answering employee questions, reporting and working directly with Corporate Payroll to ensure accuracy of employee hours and pay.
  • Ongoing reporting and tracking of common HR metrics for the Elkin location
  • File management and program administration
  • Other tasks as assigned

Job Requirements


  • Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in HR Management or related degree in an accredited post-secondary institution or have a PHR or SHRM CP certification
  • 2-3 years Human Resources experience
  • Manufacturing HR experience preferred
  • ADP experience is a plus
  • Must be able to work an early morning schedule (6:30am – 3:30pm)
  • A demonstrated working knowledge of FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA and DOL guidelines and familiarity with applicable federal and state laws and benefits administration


  • The successful candidate must maintain the highest level of integrity in the execution of their work, including handling matters requiring confidentiality.
  • Must have demonstrated initiative, time management, project management, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • The ability to multi-task is essential in order to be successful in this role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) are required.
  • Must have a working knowledge, preferably an intermediately level or higher, of Excel
