Vitro is hiring for a full time Inside Legal Counsel.  The successful candidate will be a part of a team that provides all legal services to the Architectural, Automotive Glass and Glass Containers business in the US and Canada.

The team will work together and only when necessary due to volume or specialization, the services will be outsourced but will still have the obligation to coordinate such legal services.

The attorneys will coordinate with the corresponding areas of the Company in the US and Canada and with the office of the General Counsel in Mexico to be involved in all the sustainability process, including all compliance obligations.

The Main Strategic Responsibilities for this role are :

  • Maintaining an office in operations and rendering the legal services.
  • Keeping the legal costs down and within budget and in an efficient matter.
  • Enforce the necessary actions to maintain Compliance and Sustainability of the Company

Main Operating Responsibilities and Description of Services:

Commercial: In this category in-house counsel will be in charge of supporting the negotiations of agreements to (i) sell the company’s products and services to its customers; (ii) to acquire all raw materials and services needed in the ordinary course of business; (iii) for the purchase, sale or lease of company’s assets or capital goods; and (iv) give support to special projects.


  1. Review and approve all IP agreements of the company including all licenses agreements.
  2. Coordinate with business personnel to develop strategies for worldwide intellectual property procurement.
  3. Coordinate with Mexico office to manage worldwide IP portfolios.
  4. File and prosecute worldwide patent portfolio for Vitro Flat Glass, Vitro Automotive, Vitro SAB (portfolio from Architectural) and National Phase II filings for PCT cases filed by other Vitro business units.
  5. Manage the prosecution of foreign applications by outside counsel.
  6. Manage business unit trademark portfolio using outside counsel (L&P)
  7. Participate in semi-annual MOI review meetings.
  8. Participate in annual annuity fee review meeting.


Litigation: The services will consist of coordinating all suits, demands, legal and administrative actions and claims initiated or received by the company in the US and Canada (“Litigation”). These services will be coordinated in-house and actual litigation will be outsourced.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS):

  1. Review and approve all EHS related agreements of the Company for suppliers and with authorities.
  2. Follow up legal actions or requirements from the different authorities related with EHS.
  3. Coordinate with the office of the General Counsel in México to follow a Vitro project for EHS as applicable to each location in the US and Canada.

Labor and Benefits:

  1. Review and approve all Labor related agreements of the Company.
  2. Follow up legal actions or requirements from the different authorities related with Labor.
  3. Coordinate with the HR office in US and Canada to follow up proceedings 


  1. Review and enforce all Compliance policy and rules and follow up on the different sustainability areas.
  2. Prepare, maintain and deliver information and reports on compliance and sustainability to the office of the GC.

Job Requirements


  • Must be an attorney in law having the qualifications to practice law preferably in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Demonstrated excellence from top schools including grades, participation in academic activities outside school related with law organizations or seminars and continued learning through seminars etc
  • Bilingual Preferred (especially Spanish).
  • 3 to 5 years experience practicing law.
  • Demonstrated background should be in commercial law (i.e. contracts for purchasing of raw materials, services, contracts to sell to customers, etc.)
  • It would be preferable if the candidate has experience in other areas such as Intellectual Property, corporate, M&A or environmental. 
  • He/She must be willing to act or supervise through outside counsel all areas of the law.
  • He/She must be willing to travel.
