The incumbent must be either a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or a registered nurse (RN), licensed in a State Vitro operates in, with a minimum of three years of experience in occupational health.  S/he must have strong nursing assessment skills in order to determine/evaluate appropriate care and follow-up for work-related injuries and illnesses.  Familiarity with or certification in audiometric testing, drug/alcohol testing, and First Aid/CPR/AED training is preferred.  The incumbent must possess excellent communication skills to provide clear direction to employees, nurse case managers, and plant personnel, and handle conflict or adverse situations that may arise.   S/he must be able to interact positively with employees at all levels in the company as well as with external providers of health and Workers’ Compensation services.

 

The incumbent must be able to develop in-depth knowledge of current regulations and legislation that affects worker's compensation claims and cases, as well as FMLA and related employment law.  The incumbent applies the knowledge to current cases to ensure compliance with applicable laws while maintaining the rights of injured workers.  S/he must also have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and demonstrate the ability to handle emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.  S/he must have above-average computer skills to prepare the necessary documentation and meet reporting requirements, as well as to design training and communication programs for employees.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook is required.

Responsible for coordinating, maintaining, and managing Vitro Automotive’s workers' compensation program, including claim reporting, follow-up care, assignment of nurse case managers, claim management, investigation, settlement, and litigation.   Establishes standards and procedures for all matters relating to workers' compensation.   Collaborates and works with field location EHS, Human Resource, and Medical personnel, Vitro Risk Management personnel, TPA personnel, and others as necessary for matters relating to workers’ compensation.

  1. Ensures Vitro and TPA claim reporting requirements are established, communicated, and uniformly implemented. Helps ensure claims are reported to the TPA in a timely manner.   Intervenes to ensure conformance with claim reporting requirements when reporting lags or is non-compliant.
  2. Collaborates with/provides guidance to field personnel and the TPA regarding follow-up care and referral for complex, serious, or potentially problematic injury/illness claims to ensure the well-being of employees and to minimize Vitro’s financial exposure. Utilizes nurse case managers, as appropriate, for complex, serious, or potentially problematic injury/illness claims, or when the field location does not have on-site EHS, Human Resources or Medical personnel to effectively monitor the claim.
  3. May assist with claim investigation by working with field locations and the TPA to ensure needed information is obtained to help fill information gaps, substantiate claim validity, determine subrogation opportunities, etc.
  4. Monitors claims to ensure they are effectively managed to closure, keeping the well-being of employees and minimization of Vitro’s financial exposure in mind. Intervenes before or when claims exceed expected medical recovery periods, when follow-up care or communications lag, etc. 
  5. Collaborates with field personnel, the TPA, outside counsel, and other personnel as needed when claims involve litigation or settlement.  Proactively identifies claims warranting settlement.   Obtains internal Vitro approvals prior to agreeing to claim mediation agreements and/or settlement.    Attends claim hearings, mediations, etc. on the half of Vitro Automotive as needed.  
  6. Conducts periodic claim reviews with field location EHS, Human Resource, and Medical personnel, Vitro Risk Management personnel, TPA personnel, and others as necessary.
  7. Assists with annual worker’s compensation, automobile, and general liability budgeting, and actuarial studies. Obtains reports and information needed during financial audits and/or as requested Vitro Risk Management or other personnel.
  8. Reviews all TPA invoices to ensure billing information is correct, works with the TPA to resolve billings discrepancies, and approves TPA payments in a timely manner (typically weekly). Operates within or below annual budgetary levels.
  9. Generates reports regarding workers’ compensation, automobile, and general liability insurance claim experience and associated costs by location and business on a monthly basis. Communicates claim experience to field locations and others as appropriate on a monthly basis.    
  10. Maintains employee medical records in accordance with Federal (HIPPA), State, and/or Local laws, and Vitro Confidentiality requirements.
  11. Attend periodic workers’ compensation and/or risk management training to keep current with workers’ compensation law and industry best practices.

 

Coordinates the implementation of occupational health programs for the care and well-being of employees, such as implementation of Medical Manual requirements, ADI Policy (Alcohol, Drugs and Other Intoxicants), hearing conservation and annual audiometric testing, industrial hygiene monitoring, medical surveillance, wellness, first aid/CPR/AED training, etc. at all Vitro Automotive U.S. locations.  May also interact with the Vitro Architectural U.S. business and with other Vitro businesses located in the U.S.   

  1. Provides guidance to field personnel to establish and implement guidelines for the provision of first aid/CPR/AED care in response to industrial accidents and emergency situations. Encourages the establishment of First Responder Teams (FRTs) and the ongoing training and coaching of FRTs.   Coordinates the establishment and training of the FRT for the Vitro Automotive Pittsburgh Office.
  2. Establishes requirements for occupational health/medical equipment and supplies, and periodic calibration and maintenance of equipment as required. Communicates requirements and collaborates with/provides guidance to field personnel to ensure required equipment and supplies are procured, maintained, and calibrated as required.
  3. Collaborates with/provides guidance to field personnel to ensure Vitro Medical Manual requirements are communicated and uniformly implemented. Coordinates periodic Medical Manual review, revision, and approval, and communicates updates to ensure uniform implementation.
  4. Provides guidance to field personnel to ensure Vitro ADI Policy requirements are communicated and uniformly implemented. Coordinates periodic ADI Policy review, revision, and approval, and communicates updates to ensure uniform implementation.
  5. Ensures hearing conservation and annual audiometric testing requirements are established, communicated, and works with plant locations to ensure the requirements are uniformly implemented. Coordinates annual audiometric testing for Vitro Automotive Engineering personnel who are not assigned to a plant location, and manages required follow-up required for audiograms which reveal standard threshold shifts.   Administers Cority-Medgate Audiometric module, and/or the Intelex Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Health modules, for all Vitro Automotive locations.
  6. Ensures industrial hygiene monitoring requirements and annual monitoring plans are established, communicated, and works with plant locations to ensure the requirements and plans are uniformly implemented. Administers the Intelex Industrial Hygiene module, for all Vitro Automotive locations.
  7. Works with Corporate Human Resources to schedule pre-employment exams and testing, as well as return-to-work exams for employees returning from leave of absence, for Vitro Automotive Corporate personnel.
  8. Collaborates with/provides guidance to field personnel for wellness programs and health education for employees beginning with new employee orientation to increase employee engagement in their own health and fitness initiatives to help control rising medical costs to both the employee and the company. Coordinates wellness programs for the Vitro Automotive Pittsburgh Office.
  9. Maintains employee medical records in accordance with Federal (HIPPA), State, and/or Local laws, and Vitro Confidentiality requirements.
  10. Monitors compliance with appropriate laws and standards as it pertains to occupational health; maintains appropriate records, files, including the company’s incident reporting system (Intelex), and prepares required reports and data for analysis and OSHA recordkeeping.
  11. Periodically visits Vitro Automotive field locations to provide assistance, coaching and/or training; and to audit and report on conformance to regulatory and Vitro requirements as they pertain to occupational health.
