The Mechanical Process Engineer will assist the Maintenance Department and the plant as a whole to ensure that sound and safe engineering principles are used in the areas of design, installations, fabrication, start-up and modification of equipment and to conduct maintenance activities such as troubleshooting, set-up of critical spare parts, support of training programs and ensure jobs are performed in accordance with Vitro standards.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the training of maintenance employees.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the safety of all employees and visitors to the plant. 

  • Collaborate with other departments to optimize production requirements and continuously improve plant performance through process improvements.

  • Communicate regularly with the Plant Engineer and other departments to determine the mechanical maintenance needs for all plant facilities. The successful candidate must maintain effective and harmonious relationships with all departments, based on prompt, courteous and effective service.

  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and authorization requests for management evaluation. The Engineer will design, test and install new and improved mechanical equipment that will increase the efficiency and performance of plant production processes.

  • Attend departmental meetings, production meetings and general safety meetings. When applicable, provide input and leadership in the development of Safety policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4+ years of proven experience
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and sound technical judgment
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations including product and employee safety, OSHA standards
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and building systems, including but not limited to HVAC, compressed air systems, utility systems and water treatment process
  • Knowledge and experience using CAD programs including AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • A thorough understanding of raw material handling including conveyors, material elevators and associated equipment. Understanding of electrical systems and equipment such as motors, motor control centers, transformers, switchgears, control equipment, process instrumentation.
