Job Description


The incumbent reports to the Plant Manager. The position is responsible for managing and directing engineers, maintenance, and operators working in Salem.

The Plant Engineer  at Salem has responsibility for the performance and improvements in the production operations of the Salem MSVD Coater & the Glass processor & Warehousemen Teams. The Coater is an important part of the Architectural Glass supply system within Vitro and produces MSVD Low-E coated flat glass for the residential and commercial building industry. Ensures all reports comply with all Vitro requirements and produces products that meet all internal & customer specifications. The Plant Engineer directly & indirectly supervises & leads both the Glass Processor & Warehouse team to meet all customer & business objectives and goals.

This position requires the incumbent to communicate regularly with the Supervisors, Plant Maintenance, , and other engineers in the department. He/she works closely with other departments in determining electrical and mechanical needs for all assigned projects.

The incumbent will assist in planning, tests and installation of new and/or improved equipment that will increase efficiently and performance of plant production process.

The incumbent will utilize an innovative approach to look for ways to increase products. The incumbent prepares cost estimates and authorization requests for management evaluation and is in frequent contact with storeroom and purchasing personnel to ensure availability of critical parts and materials. A constant awareness of plant status in meeting safety, housekeeping, and environmental standards as well as Regulatory Agencies. Electrical and mechanical requirements are essential to this position.

The incumbent must create an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust among all employees and assist in maintaining the plant’s union-free status.

This position requires a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relates science field. He/she must have and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of sound engineering principles and sound technical judgement. Knowledge of human relations and the ability to work with all levels of plant personnel is essential.

  • Planning/administration – Plans and conducts plant-wide maintenance operations on a timely and effective basis.

Job Requirements

4 year Engineering degree, plus 5 years of experience in a related field.
