Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW), a division of Vitro and the #1 manufacturer and distributor of automotive glass in North America has an immediate opening for a Program Engineer. This position will be located at our value added assembly plant in Westland, MI or Crestline, OH.

This position is responsible for providing technological and engineering support for the plant's equipment, production processes and products to ensure reliability and optimum use of resources to meet customer needs. In this role, you will also provide continuous improvements in the areas of safety, quality and value. Success will be measured against project spending to budget, achievement of timelines, speed and yield variances to budget for the plant products, as well as against the achievement of plant quality and safety goals.


  • Develop project plans related to engineering assignments and assist in developing short and medium range detailed plans.  Provide information for capital and expense funding requests related to plant and process engineering (including technical specifications, review of technical data and performance of technical review projects, management presentations) to assist in decision-making.
  • Design and implement assigned production processes and modifications to existing processes with increasing levels of size and importance, dependent on experience, to increase plant safety, quality, efficiency and to reduce variable costs using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
  • Utilize value stream mapping, work cell optimization, process flow diagrams, PFMEA and other such techniques and procedures in equipment/process design and in the establishment of vendor specifications and other work activities to contribute to continuous improvement activities and to best meet customer requirements.
  • Utilize effective project management with cost controls and sound engineering judgment in the timely planning and implementation of projects and other work assignments to contribute to plant productivity and profitability goals and objectives.
  • As a team player, work with plant maintenance and production to provide technological guidance and assistance in developing equipment operational and maintenance procedures to ensure equipment can perform at optimum levels on a consistent basis.
  • Work directly with customers, contractors and vendors to ensure understanding, capabilities, project requirements, and timing are clearly understood at the time of bidding through project completion.
  • Implement and emphasize safety, health and environmental control policies and procedures in both personal and work activities and in equipment/process design and modifications, in order to contribute to and ensure plant/company safety and health goals are achieved.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering 
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a production or process environment; automotive experience is a plus but not required; automotive glass and automotive launch process experience is preferred
  • A working knowledge of computer aided-design and computerized processes including PLCs, robotics and vision systems is preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and experience with work cell optimization for the automotive industry is preferred
  • Travel for project work is required.  At least 50%
