Job Description

Vitro Fresno is a float glass producing plant operating on a continuous basis.  The primary responsibilities of the Quality Control group are:

 

  1. To assure a satisfactory, usable product going to the customer.
  2. To accumulate, compile, assess, and report results of quality evaluation.
  3. To provide special services that contribute to reduced costs, improved quality or overall plant effectiveness.
  4. To recommend, suggest, or require corrective action for quality maintenance as needed.

 

To meet the outgoing quality goals of the plant by managing the Quality Management System to establish appropriate programs for quality; reporting on plant performance in house and in the field. Manage the Customer Claims Process and Quality Department Corrective Actions. Continuously improve our Quality Processes and train the QC Techs on new instrumentation or methods.

The incumbent works closely with all departments, especially the production departments where he/she maintains a good rapport.  Incumbent must be an objective thinker who uses lines of logic with a concern for people when problems or changes occur.  Incumbent must be flexible to various operating conditions.

 The incumbent designs and maintains the job scope and duties of the Sr. Q.C. Technicians and Line QC Technicians, with the approval of the Quality Assurance Manager, to provide the required coverage.  Incumbent may supervise the Sr. Q.C. Technicians and Line QC Technicians and provide supervisory guidance, coordination, etc., as needed.

 

Items of major significance are conducted through the lines of the organizational framework.

 

Designs and performs special studies as needed or requests so indicate.

 

Sends out defect samples to research from upsets and routine defect collections. 

 

Does photography work (including edge striaes, striagrams, and bubble striaes) to monitor the process routinely and during upsets.

 

Talks with customers concerning quality issues and assists in resolving those issues.

 

Maintains lab equipment, keeping necessary supplies on hand, keeping Records maintained.

 

Visits customers on routine field trips, specified complaints or as a customer service team member.

 

Assists Tank or Wareroom personnel in detecting sources of surface damage by utilizing microscopic checks, board checks, roll movement and sample collection.

 

Communicates to production supervision a summary of collected data so they may initiate corrective action, and reports significant problems to the Quality Assurance Manager.

 

Performs a variety of miscellaneous related duties such report preparations, special process experiments, experiment analysis, and other related duties as directed for efficient department operation.

 

Maintains good housekeeping and performs job in a safe manner by adhering to and requiring adherence to all safety and housekeeping policies.

 

Assists in training sessions in production departments on quality-related items and topics, specifications, new procedures, new products, etc.

 

Assist with data collection plan to get a better understanding how processes are behaving.

Provide statistical analysis of data with information about trends/reasons and abnormal peaks. Investigate abnormal peaks and make recommendations for improvement actions.

 

Assist with the implementation of KPI’s and Cost of Quality projects.

 

Provide monthly quality performance report.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree (preferred field of study- Industrial Engineering or Engineering, Quality Management Systems/Process Improvement or similar)
  • Formal training or 3-5 years of related/relevant professional work experience in Lean/Six Sigma (5 “S” Methodology, 5 WHY’s/Cause & Effect Diagram, 8D, Kaizen) and ISO environment
  • Experience with applying principles, best practices, and procedures of Continuous Process Improvement using data-driven techniques
  • Experience with implementing measurement systems analysis, control plans, charts, capability studies, and other quality methods
  • Experience with developing and implementing Problem-Solving methodologies for internal and external customer issues
  • Experience with initiating Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA)
  • Experience with developing and documenting procedures
  • Effective oral and written communication skills (ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external customers)
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to organize, manage, and execute complex tasks/projects with minimal supervision/guidance
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
