At our facility in Westland, MI, we are expanding operations and looking for a Robotics Engineer.  This growing facility was opened in 2007 and performs value-add operations as a Tier 1 supplier in the automotive industry.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Robotics Engineer provides technological engineering support to plant and process operations to ensure reliability and the optimum and safe use of facilities, equipment and resources in order to meet customer requirements and plant objectives.

Principal Accountabilities Include:

  • Responsibility for assigned projects and support to various areas of the plant's facilities and/or fabricating processes to ensure appropriate facilities, equipment and tooling are available and ready to use
  • Design and implementation of basic assigned production process modifications and engineering projects to increase plant safety, quality, efficiency, reduce variable costs, and provide technological guidance and assistance in equipment operation and maintenance
  • Development of project plans and budgeting
  • Using established engineering principles and methods, investigations of engineering and process problems by obtaining and analyzing pertinent data and developing recommended solutions.  Implementing solutions that involve designing and requisitioning material and equipment through vendor/customer contact while keeping appropriate plant personnel and departments informed of progress and results
  • Act as the technical expert in the development and implementation of process manuals and technical training programs
  • Strong experience in Functional Specifications Design, Instrumentation Integrations, PLC/HMI/SCADA Programming, System Design and Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Training

Job Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial)
  • 2 years or more demonstrated engineering experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, with designing, programming & troubleshooting PLC, HMI & robotic systems
  • Automotive experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • A comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and sound technical judgment to take basic projects from inception/design to implementation
  • Expert proficiency in Fanuc Robot programming and other associated equipment
  • Skill requirements include Allen Bradley (AB) ControlLogix PLC, PanelView Plus via FactoryTalk ME, TCP Quick Panel, PowerFlex and Yaskawa VFD, Instrumentations, DeviceNet and Ethernet networks
  • Knowledge of human relations skills and the ability to work with all levels in the organization are essential
  • Effective and strong written, verbal, communications, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook
