Job Description


The Tank Engineer is responsible to lead technical improvements in the area that they are assigned.  This is done by following the lean six sigma process.  The successful candidate may be responsible for process, product, or equipment improvements.  It is expected that they would work in a manner of continuous improvement and document improvements to share with other manufacturing sites.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe and healthy work environment to minimize injuries and health concerns to employees while insuring adherence to environmental standards and policies.
  • Establish and maintain a strong quality process in the Tank department which emphasizes the need for every employee to achieve conformance to defined requirements 100% of the time.
  • Provide the technical expertise to tank operations to assure safe , efficient daily operation.
  • Develop and coordinate short and long-term innovative projects to ensure the use of the most modern and efficient glass making technical practices.
  • Maintain close supervision with supporting staff to ensure a smooth running and efficient operation that meets the plant objectives and goals.
  • Improve costs by recommending improvement projects and capital expenditures for areas of tank operation.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ceramic or chemical engineering preferred)
  • 1-3 years related production/process experience  
  • General knowledge of float glass batch, melting and forming process

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, judgement and administrative ability 
  • Flexibility and ability to make decisions in the face of rapidly changing conditions
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) for interactions with management, peers, other associates, vendors and contractors
  • Ability to trouble-shoot, analyze and resolve problems, plan, organize and share information
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects to established timelines as performance is measured against project goals and specific assignments
