Job Description


The incumbent has the primary responsibility for plant productivity, organization and improvement of quality, safety and housekeeping. The incumbent acts as a production engineer to facilitate the maximum utilization of equipment and systems to meet daily production requirements.


This position has frequent contact with Shift Managers, Float Process Dept. and Quality Control to ensure that customer quality and delivery requirements are met 100% of the time. This position also has frequent contact with Plant Engineering and Maintenance staff responsible for the engineering, maintenance and operation of Glass Products equipment. Periodic contact with the Information Systems group with regard to production reporting and accounting computer systems is also required. The incumbent works closely with operators and Shift Managers to coordinate production equipment repairs in a manner that will permit all production objectives to be met.


The incumbent helps ensure that all new equipment and modification to existing equipment is in compliance with safety standards as set forth by the company and government agencies. The incumbent is responsible for installing, testing and debugging of all Glass Products equipment to ensure a smooth start-up. This position may develop and conduct training sessions for newly installed or modified equipment with all efforts directed toward development of employee knowledge base, cost reduction, maximum efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.


This position keeps abreast of technological improvements and “Best Practices” at other facilities and in the marketplace and applies them to Glass Products operations.  This position makes frequent inspections of equipment and processes and works with supervisors, peers and operating personnel to develop new methods and equipment that will improve quality and promote a more efficient and stable operation.


The incumbent performs the basic duties common to all Engineers and Supervisors, adheres to plant safety and housekeeping guidelines, supports local management and corporate EEO policies; maintains an atmosphere of confidence, mutual trust and respect among employees.


  • Modifying existing programs to accommodate new needs for Department (engineer II)
  • Integrating new equipment with internal systems.
  • Maintaining and modify existing programs
  • Maintaining systems in the Department
  • Analyzing the process and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Interacting with outside vendors and Corporate Engineering
  • Providing 24-hour technical assistance
  • Training Shift Managers and Operators in new systems
  • Making recommendations and providing user-friendly intuitive systems for use by Shift Manager and Operators.
  • Manage capital projects assigned to Wareroom.
  • Spec out equipment for process improvement. Work with vendors and outside contractors to design equipment.

Job Requirements

This position should have a B.S. degree in Engineering and minimum plant operations experience of 2-5 years.  The incumbent must be able to communicate with all levels of technical and operating personnel; must be analytical, perceptive, and capable of applying these traits to problem solving situations; must understand control theory, PLC programming, and advanced excel programming.
