Job Description


While on shift, incumbent administers, directs, supervises and is accountable for all activities in the Cold-end of the plant as well as Shipping and Maintenance.  Incumbent is required to efficiently develop strategies to utilize people, equipment, materials, utilities and budget to meet Plant requirements for safety, environment, quality, labor and expenses


The incumbent has the primary responsibility for organization and improvement of quality, safety and housekeeping as well as plant productivity. The incumbent acts as a production team leader to facilitate the maximum utilization of equipment and manpower to meet daily production requirements.


This position has frequent contact with Production Control, Float Process Dept. and Quality Control to ensure that customer quality and delivery requirements are met 100% of the time.


This position also has frequent contact with Plant Engineering and Maintenance staff responsible for the engineering, maintenance and operation of Glass Products equipment to improve performance.


The incumbent works closely with operators and Shift Managers to coordinate production equipment repairs in a manner that will permit all production objectives to be met.


The incumbent helps ensure that all new equipment and modification to existing equipment is in compliance with safety standards as set forth by the company and government agencies.


The incumbent assists in testing and debugging of all Glass Products equipment to ensure a smooth start-up. This position may develop and conduct training sessions for newly installed or modified equipment with all efforts directed toward development of employee knowledge base, cost reduction, maximum efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.


The incumbent is responsible for training and developing SM and Leads on any new equipment or process introduced into the Flat Glass Operations.


This position makes frequent inspections of equipment and processes and works with supervisors, peers and operating personnel to develop new methods and equipment that will improve quality and promote a more efficient and stable operation.


The incumbent performs the basic duties common to all Supervisors, adheres to plant safety and housekeeping guidelines, supports local management and corporate EEO policies and maintains an atmosphere of confidence, mutual trust and respect among employees.

Job Requirements

Full proficiency in Cold-end Flat Glass operations. This position requires a background in production with a minimum of five (5) years industrial experience, and seven (7) years of management experience. The incumbent must be able to communicate with all levels of technical and operating personnel.  The incumbent must be analytical, perceptive and capable of applying these traits to problem solving situations.  Incumbent must have demonstrated the ability to work cohesively with Union Leadership team to resolve day-to-day issues. Requires intermediate computer skills.
